2016 Stonyridge Larose
Stonyridge Vineyards have been producing world class Kiwi wines on Waiheke Island since 1985, longer than just about anyone else in the region. The 1987 Larose has been hailed as the greatest wine ever made in New Zealand and is responsible for bringing forth this countries wines to the world stage. Located amid a gently north-facing valley, the site is sheltered from cooler southwest winds by a stony ridge that runs from one coast to another, hence the name, Stonyridge. The flagship wine of the Stonyridge fleet, the highly acclaimed Larose is a classic Bordeaux blend that’s been compared with some of the greatest wines in the world.

Aromas of fresh herbs, pronounced black olive and obvious French oak (70%new).
This organically grown blend has a rich and generous mouthfeel with thought provoking complexity and sound structure. Flavours are currently dominated with primary cassis characteristics as the robust tannins stand guard over a developing flavour profile of black forrest berries, chewing tobacco and fresh herbs
Long and generous finish that requires a juicy, fatty slice of red meat!.
Last tasted June 2018. Best left to rest for now, this wine needs time. 6-25+ years.
‘’was profoundly impressed by a barrel sample of the 2016 Stonyridge Larose. Work in progress, of course, but I expect great things from the finished wine.’’
